Parish Nurses
Karen McCartney RN, Shelly Salmon RN, and Shannon Snekser RN are staffing our parish nurse ministry at Salem.
They are on hand after worship on Sundays in the fellowship hall to do routine blood pressure checks and answer general questions about health and healing.
As this ministry grows in our midst other opportunities will arise to share information and respond to the health concerns of Salem Church members.

What do parish nurses do? What don't they do?(1)
Parish nurses serve as teachers and health counselors and can explore ways for us to cope more effectively with physical problems, stressful life transitions, and signs and symptoms that need to be taken seriously.
Parish nurses bring their faith and an understanding of Jesus' healing ministry into their work and demonstrate the concern God has for our spiritual and physical wholeness. Parish nurses are not free home health nurses and do not provide hands-on care. They are not free social service caseworkers but can help church members access needed community care. Parish nurses are not psychiatric counselors but they can listen and guide church members through the maze of mental health provider services. Parish nurses do not make medical diagnoses or recommend prescriptions. But they can interpret medical language and diagnosis meanings and they can help church members communicate with their doctors more effectivel y. (1) National Health Ministries PC(USA) |
